Solaise Lift Project

If you’re a Val regular you’ll probably wonder where you are the first time you head up Solaise this winter. Over the summer they’ve moved around a million tons of earth to completely reshape the mountain, reducing the gradient from 16% to just 7% to create a unique mountain-top learning area for beginners and kids. The ancient Lac chair has been replaced with a caterpillar-like covered magic carpet and on the other side two more will meet it at the top, eventually creating a whole new station, facilities centre and viewing point with panoramic views. There are even rumours of a mountain-top hotel! Watch this space for more news on the Solaise development

Big changes at Doudoune

Imagine an enchanted forest right here in Val d’Isère! Push your way through the undergrowth. Other groups are sitting under the shade of the trees or sheltered by the bushes. You arrive at a clearing and the forest opens out. There, in the flickering light from the fire, the gypsy circus are putting on an amazing show. This is the new Doudoune Club.

A new heliski operation starts in Val d'Isere

Luxury heliski specialists Pure Ski Company and Val d’Isère legend (there’s no other word for him) Pat Zimmer team up for the 2016 season to offer a bespoke service encompassing everything from bespoke heliskiing tours to 5 different areas to Italy – just over 10 minutes flying from your Val d’Isère base – or once-in-a-lifetime excursions as far away as Canada, Chile, Greenland or Iceland. Pat tells us that he skied with the Pure Ski team last season and was so impressed with their service and professionalism that he eventually set up their partnership, based in Val d’Isère, to help clients visiting the resort make the most of their different services.

Cocorico

After more or less literally taking Val d’Isère by storm in its first season last year, everyone’s favourite ski-in-fall-out après bar is going to be even bigger and better this time round. The terrace will be nearly double the size and there will be a second outdoor bar. We can’t wait!
